PROCHANNEL with and without secondary drainage

DIN 18195 and the associated requirement for secondary drainage for drains at floor level in tiled showers have recently led to in-depth market discussion. While supporters of complying with this requirement promise greater safety, the opposing side cautions against secondary drainage in combination with modern composite seals and coated jointing material and has concerns of damage due to the effects of capillary action.

“Proline Systems is a systems provider. In this specific case, that means following the demands of our customers and being able to offer our successful PROCHANNEL drainage line in both versions now. PROCHANNEL has been a market success for almost ten years and will be available with and without secondary drainage,” reports Managing Director Karl-Heinz Fiedler

The drain pans, plate, supports, designer grille and recess components remain identical and unchanged for both versions. Starting immediately, however, there will be two different drainage line housings available with three installation variants.

Unlike the previous PROCHANNEL channel drainage design, the border of the PROCHANNELs-line with secondary drainage system being sealed ends flush with the drainage line housing. This enables any leakage water that may enter to flow over this plane into the drainage line housing as required in the “Instructions for planning and implementing drains and channels in conjunction with seals with composite design” (AIV) dated August 2012. Moreover, the version of PROCHANNELs-line with secondary drainage is optionally available with or without a frame designed for material thicknesses between 10 mm and 19 mm.

Subsequently, the third version of the PROCHANNEL drainage line features the option to omit the frame. A bonding flange goes over the channel occupied by the tile for this application of the new PROCHANNELs-line system with secondary drainage. This merely creates a shadow gap for the visible side; a solution that should appeal to design-oriented customers.

PROCHANNELs-line with secondary drainage will initially be available in lengths of 80, 90 and 100 cm. The lowest installation height is 56 mm, along with drain pans available in 65 mm and 112 mm designs. As with all PROCHANNEL shower channels, these drain pans have variable drains.
